What is Tenkara :
Japanese: テンカラ, "from heaven" or "from the skies”
About Tenkara Fishing
Tenkara fishing was an ancient fly fishing form practiced in the Japanese mountain streams.
Tenkara fly fishing is the simplest fishing method in the modern world. Its simplicity in gears
makes it more spontaneous and fun while its accurate casting makes it more effective in catching
fish. Tenkara rod is light and compact enough for hiking, backpacking and other outdoor
adventures.
There are many advantages of using the long tenkara rods when fishing in mountain streams
over fly rods with reels. With a long rod and short line, it allows a drag-free dry fly or to manipulate
dry flies so they look like distressed insects on water. It is also a perfect rod for tactical
nymphing.
About Tanuki Rods
Tanuki rods were designed and developed by Luong Tam, a design engineer and avid fly fisher
who loves to fish on mountain streams. Initially Luong wanted to design and build a tenkara rod
which fit his fishing style for himself with ideas such as super light weight, ideal for backpacking.
As a competitive fisher, he wanted a comfortable rod for long fishing days that provides
accurate casting (he believes accuracy is more important than distance) with small diameter
and light line(less sagging). A good rod bending would give a feeling of tight connection to the
fish. After all, fish on is the best reward for fishers. All Tanuki rods are excellent for Japanese
Tenkara fishing method and High Stick/Euro-Nymphing style.
Luong has been working very closely with a rod builder to make sure Tanuki is crafted with top
quality. Each Tanuki rod goes through the strictest quality control for every single building step
so only the best rods go to the fishers. Each rod has to pass through four strength test at many
different angle before and after assembling the grip.
All Tanuki Rods are built with Japanese Toray high modulus carbon fiber.
